A concert for Edward Storey
St Michael’s Church, Discoed, Powys
This concert is in memory of poet Edward Storey, chairman of Friends of St Michael’s and neighbour of the church.
Ruth Watson and David Ponsford gave many concerts in the early years in aid of the restoration of our beautiful church and return once again with David’s daughter-in-law, the soprano Alison Hill to give a concert including the arias of J.S.Bach for soprano and oboe, songs by Purcell and Handel, and a Telemann Oboe Sonata.
To reflect Edward’s love of the English poets there is a setting of William Blake songs for oboe and soprano by Vaughan Williams. The music will be interspersed with readings of poems by John Clare and Edward himself, including extracts from Edward’s Discoed Tapestry for narrator and oboe with music by Trevor Hold.
